Too good to miss...

While browsing the paper last Thursday night, I saw the mention of a huge sale, and I just couldn't pass up the opportunity. Pamela Anderson was having an estate sale in Malibu. Love her or hate her, it's well known that Pamela is a huge Shabby Chic enthusiast, and has called upon Rachel Ashwell more than once to custom decorate her Malibu home, which you can see here. So let's just say what taste Pamela lacks in men, she makes up for in home decor. Killer home decor.
The morning of the sale was best described as hurry up and wait. It began with my arrival at the Trancas parking lot at 6am, right off Pacific Coast Highway, in Malibu - the declared meeting spot, according to the website. From there, we were to be shuttled off to the actual location of the sale, which was not her home, but a building next to the home she had been leasing. Then came the wait. The 4 hour wait. What else to you do for 4 hours but wait, look at your watch, chat, and look at your watch some more. I gabbed with several of the ladies in line, made a few new friends and we even exchanged numbers.
Finally, 4 hours later, they lined us up and packed us into the shuttle like a tight can of sardines. My heart was pounding as we were caravaned through the unfamiliar canyon roads. Even our driver seemed lost at times. Then came the barracaded doors, two sets of them, as well as security people manning the doors. For a moment I thought we were entering Fort Knox. Suddenly a quick jerk, and the shuttle came to an abrupt stop. As I opened the shuttle door, I was greeted by an extremely handsome man, who had a very Ryan Seacrest-esque personality. He shook my hand and loudly exclaimed "Welcome to Pamela Anderson's Estate Sale!" The pandemonium had just begun.
I quickly hurried up the driveway and made my way into the building. As I shopped, I gathered things up into my arms until my arms could hold no more, so I found a large wicker basket to carry all of my goods around. There were no boxes in sight. It seemed many of the shoppers were more interested in Pamela's clothing, which were packed in a small room, and I had absolutely no interest in buying her used jeans and tee-shirts. There were lots of cameras, producers, boom men, and even a few nosy camera men that followed me around as I shopped. They even got a few interviews out of me, quite unwillingly. Did I really have to wear that raggy sweater that day? The rumor going around was that they were filming the sale for Pam's upcoming show, called Pamela. Although I never got to see her, I heard she made an appearance on Saturday. By the time I was done shopping, I bought so much stuff, I had to be assisted by two of the producers that helped me down the driveway, each with an arm load.
What was I going to do with it all? That was the question I was asked by several of the staff members that day. Well, I'm a dealer. Buying and selling is what I do, and its the cycle of my business. In a perfect world, I wish I could keep all of this stuff, it's drop dead incredible; all my favorite things I love to collect. But I'm only keeping a few things and selling all the rest here and here. I'd love for you to check it out. And maybe you too can own a piece of Pamela's Shabby Chic decor!

ReplyDeleteOh wow! That is such a neat story to share. I wouldn't wait around for 4 hours but to get a chance to grab some celebrity goods I might.
ReplyDeleteKarla
To shabbyinminnesota: I overheard at the sale that Pamela is moving back to Canada; where she is originally from. That's why she's giving up the least on her Malibu home.

ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI am so excited reading your story that I feel like I am going to the sale myself! I watched the video and I wished I could jump in or at least stop it to get a better look! It's hard to take it all in, so much to see. I can't believe she is giving it all up, we look so hard to find the beautiful things she sold. You should have called me, I would have kept you company during your 4 hour wait. LOL
Kelly
Drool, drool and droolity drool! I love it! I went and watched the video too. SO lovely! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDelete~Angela :-)
You got some very cool stuff. I would never have guessed that would be some things Pamela Anderson was interested in. --- I wouldn't want her clothes either. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous lot of goodies you scored Jennifer! Gotta give it to Pammy, she has impeccable taste. I loved the party for her boy in the most recent Rachel Ashwell book, the little snippets we got to see of her home showed the best furniture and gorgeous stuff! LOL I would have gone the opposite direction to the clothes, but would love to be the size to fit into them!
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteWhoa!! I'm a day late and a dollar short. How can it be that I missed this post. I am just now reading it on May 15th. Working has really cramped my blogging time. How fabulous, I give you credit girl, I don't think I could have taken the stress. You certainly scored with all those beauties. Is the little beaded sconce still available. I think it had my name on it.
Thanks for your birthday wishes Jennifer. I am so happy to call you my friend.
Hugs,
LeAnn:)

You were so professional about the whole thing. They were treating you like the movie star when it was all said and done. You got some lovely pieces and it was sure a successful day for you and worth the wait. Your spirit and love of what you do is so admirable. I just love it.
ReplyDeleteHow cool are you going to Pam Anderson's estate sale!?! You found some gorgeous things! I just recently saw her home features on a TV show, and it was gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love that mercury glass and would love to know when/where you'll be selling it.
I saw your bedroom featured on Cottage Magpie. It's beautiful!
Sounds like quite an adventure. Honestly I wouldn't care that it was Pamela's...it's just beautiful stuff regardless.
ReplyDeleteKelli
Jennifer, how awesome to have been able to attend a sale like that and you found such great things. I'd have to keep it all!! You know she's also bought from Sue Balmforth of Bountiful and she featured her home on her website. So lovely!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing--
ReplyDeleteI think it was time well spent and what an adventure too!
What an AWESOME opportunity to get to go to Pam Anderson's estate sale!!!!!! Thanks for posting the link to her video from Cribs, too. It was really cool to see her house, and I love how she had it decorated. Did she say why she was moving? Did you get to meet her? Did they have good prices, or were the things expensive since they belonged to someone famous? Glad you had fun and got such great stuff!!!

First of all, what an adventure! I have to ask if you will be parting with the Rose Garden sign. I saw it in the Cribs video and was trying to get a really good look at it, then lo and behold I clicked back over to your post and there it was. I love it.
ReplyDeleteSmiles,
Carol

ReplyDeleteGlad I found your blog.
ReplyDeleteHer house is nothing like what I expected.
Thanks for the post.
Amy
That was the most fun I've had on a blog in my life! I loved watching the cribs episode and then seeing what you had purchased at the sale. How fun is this? It looks like all of the items that you got at the estate sale have been sold already. I never knew she had such great taste. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteThat sounded like too much fun! Hope you got some good deals too.
ReplyDeleteWow! These are all beautiful items ~ but that mercury glass is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteHello Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI love the items you purchased at Pam's estate sale. Exquisite. I also love your blog and the items you offer in your web site. I love everything you do. You have such a talent.

ReplyDeleteWho knew, I'd have never pegged her for having such great decor taste. Great finds!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun and oh what wonderful treasures you found.
ReplyDeleteNope, I would have never imagined she would have had a home I would love so much. If only her taste in men matched her taste in decor...oh well.
Was she moving? Or just downsizing the amount of *stuff*?
I had to watch the video and it was all just gorgeous. I could have moved right in...beautiful.
I loved reading your post..thank you for sharing it all with us!
Love,
Sue
Well, you certainly found some beautiful things. I don't know if I would have waited 4 hours though.
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck were they doing?
I think that the next time I have a yard sale I shall have a handsome man announce the fact to all who come to buy my stuff...
LOL! Too funny!
Terri
Thanks Jennifer for such a fantastic description of Pammie's sale - I almost felt I was right there on the day! You did a mighty good job of filling your basket with such fine goodies. News of the impending yard sale made it to Australia & attracted quite a lot of media coverage. Oh, that girl, never one to miss some free publicity!
ReplyDeleteMillie - from Down Under.
I've always wondered about the prices of sales like that. How did they compare to a regular estate sale/yard sale, etc?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, gorgeous stuff. WISH I could've just walked through!! Blessings... Polly
I absolutely LOVE your site! Im new to blogging, but have visited here so many times before I got my own bug to create one! Your site is Beautiful!! and thanks for sharing the trip to Pam A.'s home, I saw a tour on TV once and was blown away! I love those silver candle sticks!! yummy!!
ReplyDeletePam has a new show on E Network. They did an entire episode on this sale. Apparently she got rid of the furniture because her style has changed.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the trip by way of you. Wow! Wish I couldve gone, but second best was through you!
