I'm still listening
I wish to extend my thanks of those that took the time to weigh in on my last post, regarding the direction you wish to see the Cottage of the Month go in towards the future. Your emails, phone calls and comments on this subject came flooding in, and still continue to visit my inbox every day, like tiny gifts that I can hardly wait to open.
Your opinions were well expressed, and a bit divided as to be expected. While there were many devoted "pink and white" votes, there were also plenty of requests for more warm tones and natural wood colors. Many of you advised me to "follow my heart" and told me that you had faith in my direction towards the future. I must admit, I was at first a bit hesitant about opening forum on this particular subject, but you all handled it with delicate kindness and honesty, and it didn't sting one bit. Thanks.
The Cottage of the Month was a brainchild of mine that came to me one very cold December morning, close to three years ago. I was still in the developmental phase of my website at that time, so it was considered normal for me to wake up at 4am with all sorts of creative ideas to implement on my website.
On that particular early December morning, as I lay asleep in bed, it was like a bolt of lighting shot right through me. I sat straight up in bed and shook Adam right out of his sleep. Just seconds into conciousness, I declared that I needed to "go out into the world to find people that would let me into their homes and photograph their houses, on a monthly basis". He just looked at me and said, basicially, that I was out of my mind. I then replied with "you're probably right" and we both went back to sleep. It's close to three years later and we now sleep in seperate beds. I can't say I blame the guy.

14 lovies had this to say:
Jennifer,
I love the tone of this months Cottage! For those of us who have taken our decor in a slightly different direction, this home offers a lot of the old we adore and an opportunity to use the antiques we can't bear to paint white.
I think we are simply putting away the 'sweet' small items for a less cluttered look...trading them for a few larger items.
I look back over the Cottages from time to time and they all seem timeless.
My hubby thrashes about so much he smacked me in the mouth once. After he threw himself off the bed one evening while going up for a 'Slam-Dunk' we became 'separate sleepers', too. :)
LOVE LOVE LOVE your EVERYTHING!!!
Melissa
Jenn, Keep up the good work, you'll find the right path, you usually do.
Sandyt
You are so funny.
After reading through the comments I realized that you will never be able to please all the people all the time. You have done an amazing job already so I think you should just follow your heart. We all wait anxiously for the first of the month so that should tell you something!
LOL! I hope we helped you out~
Hmm... it's a wonder we women get any sleep at all~
: P
Hi Jen,
Your blog always makes me smile.
This is why women never get any sleep. We are always thinking up stuff.
Have a great week,
Rosemary
I think it was very caring of you to ask us all what we think. I'll just say again that you have such a fantastic eye that I trust that whatever you put up will be beautiful.
Best,
~Angela :-)
Hi Jen I love all of the cottages you have featured and trust that whatever you select will be loved by us all

Hi Jennifer,
How funny, you had me going until the last bit. Luckily, my husband is a really sound sleeper so the up until the wee hours of the night brimming with ideas never bothers him one bit ;)
I always love coming here to see what you're up to in your neck of the woods - lol. Pretty little half-doll you've got there.

3 years, WOW! Sorry to hear of the separate beds, though. That can be lonely. You have a wonderful eye for composing a photograph. Just keep doing what you do best and you should be just fine.
hugs,
Tammy
Hiya Jen - well said - you know we will love all the cottages you show us and even if some are not 100% "me" I still find MANY MANY elements that i love and inspire me. Now as to the separate beds...hmmm...is that just a good excuse for 2 sets of beautiful bed linen/beds and more divine decorating??!! Hugs, Mel xx
Oh Jen, you crack me up, lol! I have often though of seperate beds as my husband can be a thrasher, lol!
I know that whatever you do will be beautiful. Because that is YOU and you are incapable of anything not beautiful! I will always be here to support and visit as I have been for years. Although silent until recently, lol!
Big Hugs,
Amy
Hi Jenn,
I say keep doing what you love.
so far youve done an incredible job and have been one of my biggest inspirations. I used to visit you cottage of the month as well as lynsays at Shabby suite and I loved the whole concept. the idea of having our own online magazine of sorts and feature beautiful homes was a wonderful idea. thats why I started my jewel of the month feature on my website.
Im sure what ever you decide will be the right one because you have incredible style and talent and forsight you came up with the whole idea!
you go girl!!!
smiles,
Sandy
I always love your "cottage of the month". :-) I prefer "pink and white", but enjoy other styles, too, like victorian, with dark wood, etc. Anyway, I liked the October Cottage of the month a lot. :-)
