I feel like I have just arrived. The kind of arrival where the taxi cab driver slams on his brakes, pulls the cab over to the side of the road, directs you to the great big gate of opportunity and hands you the golden ticket.
The people over at Design*Sponge thought my make-over was interesting enough to showcase it on the “before and after” feature on their website, and I’m still floored. Absolutely gob smacked in fact. But the extra cherry on top was a recent interview I did with Melaine at over at My Sweet Savannah, one of the most creative bloggers I know.
While I’ve got your ear may I make small confession? Up until the very moment I revealed my home last week, for the whole world to see, I second guessed myself. My design sense went from this to this, as I developed a new color palette and proceeded to reinvent my own style. Throughout the entire 12-month remodel, I nervously paced the floors at 2am, worrying if I made the grade, asking myself “Is it good enough?”…“Am I doing enough?”…“Am I good enough?” It’s probably not a good thing to put yourself under this type of pressure, I realize that. But there’s something inside of me that thrives on that exact challenge. I just never expected the results. You guys, through all your comments and emails, blog posts and phone calls - You have made me feel like I have arrived. And I am so glad to be here.

ReplyDeleteLike I said in my post....I felt like a grandmother waiting on the birth of my first grandchild, and I was serious! I was so anxious to see your befores and afters and YOU didn't let me or any other of your readers and followers down! As you paced the floors and doubted yourself, YOU BIRTHED a beautiful new style. And, as you can now see, there was no need for doubt. Your eye for decor is impeccable! I am always inspired by your ideas and I truly think that is what you intend YOUR blog to be--an inspiration to others. I can't wait to see what you do/did to the bathrooms and bedrooms! Please don't make us wait ANOTHER year!!

Congratulations! The attention is well deserved, Jennifer! Your home redo was an amazing project, and your before and after pictures showed the change. You have a stunning home, and you did it! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteRest assured ~ you did an outstanding job! When you know that thousands of us wait everyday to see more of your beautiful home and come back day after day to stare at your lovely rooms and want to copy everything in them - you have definately done something right! :) I would like to see more close ups of all the different areas specifically a post on the kitchen shelves. If only I had a wall like that . . .
ReplyDeleteSarah
You absolutely deserve all the applause and attention, it is utterly amazing,

Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteYou deserve every bit of the kudos you're getting on this 'project', although I suspect it was done purely with love. You can see through out your home that you put a lot of thought and heart and soul into it. And, let's not forget Mr. Grey...I'm sure he deserves just as much praise for the hard work and of course he must trust your artistic vision implicitly. Awesome job Jennifer and I can't wait to see more! (I have tuned into this post many times, dreaming...) Tami E.
Good morning Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you and your haubby !! How exciting !! Your new home looks like the store "Blessings" at the Orange Circle !! Decor, colors, everything !! You will have to visit there sometime !! I have to ask tho, did you get rid of all the whites and rose pretties you soo lovingly had before !! Or, just repaint and redo ?! Lovely pieces you have !! ReplyDeleteOf course you are worthy of Design Sponge! You are more than worthy! Your house is absolutely amazing and your design style is perfect. Love how it has evolved.
ReplyDeleteKarla
well...you have definately arrived my dear!! your house is so gorgeous and i like the new look, with touches of black (very grounding and adds a little masculinity). as a recovering "perfectionist", i understand your worrying, but if you do it for yourself...it will be good. and it IS good. real good. congrats on a job well done!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you- enjoy your {much deserved} time in the spotlight. You are extremely talented and your home transformation is unbelievably incredible!!
ReplyDeleteOh Jennifer, congratulations! You most certainly deserve the recognition.

Congratulations, Jennifer! You deserve all this recognition after the fantastic and fabulous job you did in your home.
ReplyDeleteWOW - While I think you just passed the human test of self-doubt, I can't imagine not looking into that room and seeing *almost perfection.
ReplyDeleteI am going to be listing you on my blog as a new find (Found you from My Sweet Savannah) - and not only that, but my new inspiration blog. Honestly - you are SO talented!
Hope you're surviving this smokey-socal - Out here in Pasadena - it is not so bad today!
Happy Labor Day Weekend -
Tracy.
Congratulations! This remodel is truly inspiring. I LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer! Congrats! I totally understand your fears. When you know that what you are creating is going to be seen by hundreds (or maybe even thousands of people), the pressure is definitely high. Just like a piece of art work the rooms we create are extensions of ourselves. Something very personall that makes a statement about who we are. Personally I love the changes you made from your previous style. (Although that was fabulous too) The new style has a wonderful, fresh and modern take on cottage. It is exactly what I have been trying to achieve in my own home but because we are unable to do a complete remodel I have to work with what we have. ( A lot of dark wood that my husband refuses to paint)
ReplyDeleteAs I told you before, I have visited your pics more often than I can count now, and continue to visit as I go through my own little room re-do's. Thanks for sharing all your hard work with us. I'm thrilled you are getting the recognition you deserve!

Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteYou're better than good... you're great! Congratulations to you and Adam. I really, really want to see your home in the magazines, especially Romantic Country. I truly believe this is just the beginning for you. We all experience nervousness about things, but if you follow your heart, it's always a very good thing. Here's a big pinch, but I bet you'll still be up at 2 am, that's part of the fun and inspiration does lie in the early morning hours I've found.

jen,
ReplyDeletei have a strong hunch that this is just the beginning of the cottage 8 media tour. warmest congrats and keep us posted on my hunch!

Had to come back... really nice interview over there, Jennifer ;)

You truly are an inspiration...you deserve all the attention and praise that you are receiving, your house truly is beautiful and serene...I keep going back to look at it, I love it!!!
ReplyDeletecongrats! Love your cottage, it is amazing!
ReplyDeleteSmiles!

You know what Jennifer, we always underestimate ourselves because we see our house all the time. I never think my house looks great but then someone comes in and oohs and ahhs and you see it in a whole new light. You have arrived and don't ever underestimate yourself again because sweetie you are going to be featured in many magazines I'm sure. You and Adam did a beautiful job but most of all your special touches are what makes your rooms so great.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
LeAnn:)
Your home is breathtaking, amazing, gorgeous...... You should be featured in every home improvement magazine, decorating magazine, etc. in the country! Congratulations. I have a feeling there is more of this to come!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Jennifer! You deserve it...and I think you arrived well before you even knew it for yourself ;)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Jennifer - such an exciting time.
ReplyDeleteAlison
Oh Jennifer, you deserve this and I am so happy for you!! Your home is more than good enough! It is amazing! I KNOW you will be in the magazines and HGTV for this! It is better than most anything on that channel!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!!
Love and hugs,
Amy
You showed great taste in designing both cottages. So different, yet so beautiful! Don't second guess yourself. You have a gift! Can you come do my house? ;)
ReplyDeleteGirl, your style is so gorgeous, I wish I could live in a house like yours. It says home, creativity, beauty, love, warmth, comfort...and on and on it goes. You have an amazing sense of style. No need in second guessing yourself. Hugs, Cindy S.
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say that hasn't already been said! Except I agree with everyone else!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
Girl, I have missed you! You were on my work computer and I had a hard drive crash. I dutifully boxed up my tower and sent it to the corporate office...they 'cleaned it up', sent me a nasty note, transferred anything personal to a CD (which was unusable!) wiped my favorites and sent it back. 3 weeks later, it was acting up again. Turned out they just wiped/reformatted the HD...didn't bother to replace it! So once again I lost everything on it and have just found you again. It's been over 6 months and you have done so very much. And I LOVE your home, the flooring, the kitchen, the fridge (oh the fridge!)
ReplyDeleteAnd it's lovely!
Hello. WHAT AN INSPIRATION! Just beautiful. :) What color paint did you use on the walls and the white part? Thanks!

ReplyDeleteJennifer,
ReplyDeleteYou did a WONDERFUL job!! Love the colors. I sometimes second guess myself, but then I go with my instinct and find that I was right all along. I found you through Layla's The Lettered Cottage. Thanks so much for the inspriation, I need it and a different (or new) kitchen.
I just found this blog and I'm super excited about it! I'm having lots of fun here. :) I'm a new follower too. Also, you have many good things going on in your life! What a blessing. This is what makes life sparkle, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteJennifer As always, I look forward to your blog posts. This one didn't disappoint. Beautiful, detailed, informative and most of funny. I love the way all the rooms have such a crisp clean look while being decorated with such wonderful vintage collections. Stunning and so much fun to follow. I hope you are enjoy the finished cottage as much as we are.
