The Blogging Effect
Are you anything like me, completely appalled when you discover one of your friends doesn’t have a blog yet? Even worse, have you ever found yourself trying to convert your non-blogging friends into becoming full fledged bloggers?
I have a confession. Everyone, my name is Jennifer, and I just might attempt to corner you in the supermarket, next to the shredded cheese isle, and persuade you to go towards the light of blogging. Just ask my friend Diane.
Blogging has become a networking platform unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. I’ve laughed with you, I’ve cried with you, I’ve remembered to value everything that is truly important in life, and I’ve even revealed some really quirky things about myself. I’ve also been approached by strangers that recognized me, and that’s something I don’t know I will ever get used to, but get a great kick out of it nonetheless.
I recently had the opportunity to collaborate with a couple terrific bloggers. First, I was invited to write a Guest Post for the blog Not 2 Shabby. I’ve never guest posted before, so this was really new to me. The topic I chose to write about was Creating Vignettes…
Here’s a small quote from my guest post:
“Once you’ve found the right foundation for your vignette, you want to consider function and design. You need to ask yourself “Is this a space that requires daily, practical use, or is it more for visual appeal?” Since I use drawers for “hiding” all my practical items, such as keys, pens and paper, batteries and remotes, etc, it frees up my visual space allowing for complete creativity.
Vignettes can be very effective when using similar themes, objects and colors. Height is another important consideration. Try stacking objects at different levels, making the objects more visually appealing and interesting. If using a piece of framed art, try leaning it against the wall instead of hanging it – it grounds the art and relates it more to the other objects within your vignette”.

Next, I was approached by Paulette at The Home Beete for a Guest Interview, filled with fun and intriguing questions, such as “What could you never throw out, though maybe you should”? And “What’s the best piece of decorating advice you’ve ever received”? Or my favorite, plain and simple “In five words or less, your home is...”
To read the interview in its entirety, please click here. I know that Paulette would love to hear from you. If you have a moment, please stop by.
Blogging has brought the world to our fingertips, and created long distance, as well as down the street friendships that likely would have never occurred otherwise. I am grateful for all the paths that have led me directly to this. And I am thankful for my blogging friends. Much love to you.

And the perpetual cycle continues. This lovely gal, Diane, was so inspired by this post, she just started her own blog! Drop by if you have a moment and welcome her! Okay, my work is done here : )

Hi friend!
ReplyDeleteSO glad you posted today.
My heart always skips a beat when I see you've written something new!
Layla
Very cool post! I'm in total agreement with you and bloggin...i can't believe some of my friends are completely clueless about blogging. Although, I can't talk too much....I just started a year ago and I know the blogging worlds been around for quite some time. Love your "white post"....very nice. Happy Fall Ya'll...from Houston.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am laughing out loud. What a great post! The funny thing is, I think those "non-bloggers" are whispering behind my back... you know, Laurie has really lost her mind-she does nothing but blog and talk about blogs. I'm so glad to know that others in Blogville suffer from the same mental state. laurie
ReplyDeleteYou're so right, blogging is a wonderful thing. I have only ever had 1 friend thaht was even remotely interested in talking about home decor etc...now I am surrounded by lovely people who share my passion and don't think it's odd to be consumed by it.

I'm off to visit both sites. I agree - I am constantly trying to persuade others to start blogging! It has been brought amazing changes to my life.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Jennifer. It's almost one of the first questions I ask it seems "do you have a blog?". My world has changed completely (for the better) since I started blogging and I'm so happy to say you were one of the first people to put out a welcoming hand to me. I will read both of the articles tonight when the house is asleep. So good for you!

I feel exactly the same way Jennifer!!! I am such a blogging advocate that I've been know to create blogs for timid wanna-be bloggers just to get them started! I always try to be available to help with any questions or worries as well. Blogging has opened up a whole new world for me and fostered so many friendships. I live it a small country town and would never in a million years believed that my artwork would have been published in a magazine, but because of my blog, this has become a reality!! I'm so happy to say that because of blogging I was able to find you too! Your renovation to your new home is absolutely stunning Jennifer ~ and now I'm off to read your articles, hugs and love, Dawn
ReplyDeleteoh yea I hear you... although I just finally started one myself last month. I always felt like I didn't have much to offer anyone else (especially you who have it all together decor wise).. but its been so therapeutic for me to share my little projects with this blogging world. Your home is beautiful and I enjoy reading your blog! :)
ReplyDeleteI love you Jennifer, and I sure am Happy you talked me into setting up my own Blog. It has really changed my life, and in a wonderful way. So incredible to find so many others with the same interests. And it is a thrill to see so many published in magazines, either because of their homes ( like you) and others because of their creative creations. You makeover is a "10" Congratulations to you and Hubby. Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeletehello blogstar!

i barely have any offline friends with blogs. in fact, i think they think i am a little strange for my enthusiasm regarding my online world. but that's okay. blogging is my happy place for sure. and yours was one of my very first.
xo
Thanks so much for letting everyone know about your awesome post on Not2shabby! And for your creative post on vignettes.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty passionate about blogging too. In fact, I'm writing 3 right now.
Thanks again Jennifer! Your blog is such an inspiration. =)
It's always such fun to read your posts.
ReplyDeleteMmm... I like to keep my blog a secret from friends that don't 'get me'

I agree!! Blogging is a diary for me. It's a way to get all my love, frustratins, and mommy moments out. I love getting advice, reading new things, and even just laughing and crying with others. It's such a fun moment for me and allows me to feel free when I am having bad days. I have a 5 month old and some of my bloggers have been with me since I got pregnant, it's neat to see our lives pass before each other!
ReplyDeleteThis is good! My non-blogger friends and family just don't get it and I have tried to talk them into it but they do facebook, which seems so teenagey to me. Cindy
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that bloging is wonderful.
I have been bloging for almost 3 years and I love it.
However, I'm from Sweden, living in USA and my blog is in Swedish about my life here.
Lately I have been thinking abot doing a blog in English since I live here but I'm a little scared since english is not my language, so to speak!
Well aanyway, I love you blog!
Have a wonderful day!
Hugs Bodil, a swede in Vermont!
That is so funny! I feel the same way!
ReplyDeleteSuch a true and wonderful post! Blogging has made a major change in my life. None of my friends blog and they really don't get it. I try to explain the joy but until you have felt the connection with so many like minded people that one would never have connected with any other way, it is unexplainable. So I will continue on and connect with more inspiring bloggers each day. Thanks for being one of them!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jennifer, I´ve learnt what a vignette is. Now I have a name for the grouping things.
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations.
Muchos cariños

I just started blogging and I am still a little timid about telling anyone I have a blog. My husband says "you should tell your family and friends" but I am not sure my family would think it is so cool. I Love your blog though. It is so pretty and full of info. Someday I hope to have a blog as nice as yours.
ReplyDeleteHello. My name is Emma and I'm a blogaholic. Yes. It's happened to me too. Love this post and your links. Your blog and your pictures of your home here are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, I agree with you 100%, in fact, because of your lovely website, I started blogging too! You are such a huge inspiration.

Hi Jennifer :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny, because I do it all the time! If I walk by a home that's decorated to the tee from the outside I'll wonder if they blog. If I'm at say the eye doctor and we're talking about thrifting I'll try to talk them into starting a blog if they don't have one LOL Blogging is so much a part of my life now, it's hard to imagine someone not doing it.
I'll go and take a gander at your blog mentions now....
hugs to you sweet friend!
xo,
rue
