Industrial Overload
Photography Disclaimer: Since I have a rather sad history of with traveling with a nice camera, all of these photos were taken with my iPhone, which I have no special camera app’s for. If any of you have any iPhone camera app recommendations to improve your photos, I’m all ears.

This past weekend, Adam and I went to check out the new Santa Monica Place Mall, and when we wandered into this store, we immediately surrendered to all the delicious industrial eye candy…

This is register area, but I couldn’t get past the reels and wheel parts being used for clever clothing display…
This tall sliding ladder has such a great look, plus it’s perfectly practical when trying to find just the right size jeans…
Loving the movie studio style lighting and painted brick detail…
I have a confession: Whenever I walk into an incredibly visual, creative store, I always have to peek inside their try-on rooms. And this one didn’t let me down…
I would love to meet the creative minds that thought of turning this turn-of-the-century press into a merchandise display rack, complete with glass shelving and an old drawer…
I had to fight every urge not to buy this leather jacket. It’s so “Sgt. Pepper’s meets Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome”…
Loving the use of more industrial machinery for display purposes…
Below is the store front. To the left is the exterior, and on the right is the interior. Can you guess what’s lining every square inch of the window?
Real antique sewing machines! They are stacked from floor to ceiling, one upon another, wrapping around the entire store front.
All Saints Co. Ltd. – Santa Monica, CA
Oh, and a quick special mention for a dear friend: Fifi’s having a pre-holiday giveaway on her blog. Please stop by, her giveaway ends on the 30th.

Retail design can be a lot of fun. Great space!

We were just there last weekend and that was my favorite store too. I LOVE the sewing machines. My husband said "he didn't get it." Men!

What a great store!
ReplyDeleteThis is why I wanted to be a window designer when I grew up! I wanted to be 'Rhoda' and some guidance counselor talked me out of it. :-) That window of sewing machines is incredible. Textural and industrial...LOVE IT...even more than I like the inside pics.
ReplyDeleteVery cool, indeed!

Oh my goodness. I must go check this out :) We are so close to SM :)
ReplyDeleteReally cool! I bet those machines could tell some interesting stories and they were really built to work!!! They could put todays machine to shame even though they can't do all the tricks todays can/
ReplyDeleteLove all the pictures!!

ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome store! Never heard of it!!!... what a totally cool decorating style.
ReplyDeleteMY heart was RACING as I was looking at the photos! SO INCREDIBLY FABULOUS!!! I'd have a hard time leaving! I WANT THAT JACKET!!! Everyday I get fashion update from Piperlime (not that I have the $ to do anything about them, and when I do it goes into the kids wardrobe, 'cause it's way more important for them to look cool!)Anyway, Piperlime has a whole page of Military inspired fashion with jackets like that, that totally ROCK!!!
ReplyDeleteOH, BTW, I was wondering is this fabulous store a chain or individually owned?
ReplyDeleteWow ~ creative, clever and inspiring! Thanks for taking us along!!

ReplyDeleteHey there Jennifer. This is too crazy but I just returned from a trip to London and posted about my trip today, including pics of the All Saints store in Notting Hill. I LOVED that store and am so excited that they've opened here in the states.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday to you!!

I just love Santa Monica. I live in the Modesto area, so it's quite a drive for me to get that far south. I will have to check it out next time I am down that way! Marcia
ReplyDeleteYummy! Even their mannequin was super cool. And now, I'm rethinking throwing away the old heavy iron sewing machine that I have. Although, I can't think what to do with it. Loved their displays even more than Anthro's. Thanks for taking such great pics.
ReplyDeleteGreat store Jen!
ReplyDeleteI will have to check that one out when I'm in Santa Monica.
Thanks for sharing,
Rosemary

Love the old sewing machines as decorations in the windowfront
ReplyDeleteThis was a fabulous blog entry! I love the nod to an industrial sewing factory, something near and dear to my heart as generations of my family had worked in the garment district in NYC. Thanks so much for sharing this with us all. I have an industrial sewing machine in my basement as I speak... er... type. I still haven't figured out how to use it!
ReplyDeleteJennifer,
ReplyDeleteThat store is just SO COOL!!! What fun you must have had visiting it. Thanks for the chance to see it.
Hugs, Cindy S
No apology needed for tne photos; they're great. I sent this post to a friend that loves fashion and fashion merchandising. Thanks for taking us along on the adventure.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing store!!!!! I am loving the industrial look these days so I am totally envious that you got to shop at such a rockin place!!!! Thanks for taking us along :o)

Nothing is too industrial for me. I wish I could get my hands on more than I do, but the really good stuff is so expensive. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteWow! I am so excited to check it out. I am in Hollywood and have been meaning to get over to the revamped Santa Monica Place! You have peaked my interest and renewed my desire to get myself over there!
ReplyDeleteThat jacket is simply fabulous.
Hi Jennifer, I can't find the picture of the clock you bought from me. And, are you going to the French Flea Market in Tarzana? Its's on the 23rd. of Oct.
ReplyDeleteI'd say those were pretty good pictures taken with your iphone! The displays are amazing! Too bad they have none of these on their web site or maybe good for them because I didn't really look at the clothes (except the jacket you pointed out, great discription btw), just the cool things they were displayed on. Wonder what their other stores look like.
ReplyDeleteSusanne.
