I don’t think I’ve ever appreciated sunshine as much as I have the past two days. My friends, the torrential storm that blindsided Southern California has passed. Everything is starting to dry up and now the clean up begins. We were one of the lucky ones, as others were not as lucky and their homes actually did get flooded out by water or mud. My heart goes out to anyone that was affected by this storm.
I’m playing catch up as we lost a few days earlier this week, and the holiday decorating continues. Let’s be honest, when you’re knee deep wading through mud, the last thing you’re thinking about is decorating your mantel and hanging stockings.
I’d gone to Home Depot last week and found these really darling Italian Stone Pine trees. They’re such tiny things!
Our dining room table is really simple here, and I love it that way. Just fresh greenery amidst a neutral backdrop.
(Note: Our backyard patio does not look like that right now. Thankfully I took these photos days BEFORE the storm hit)…
My favorite wooden bowl. It’s an antique dough bowl from Europe, completely hand hewn from a single piece of wood…
I filled it with fresh tree cuttings, pine cones, and ornaments…
I placed the baby trees in birch containers I bought from Pottery Barn a couple years back, and simply wrapped burlap garland around the tops of the containers.
Fresh cuttings made their way to my BAKERY wall as well, along with a couple of ornaments. The lettered marbles were from a wonderful reader named Judy, the etched glasses are from a local store, and the stamped spoons can be found on my site…
I love finding interest in the simple things, such as these vintage laboratory beakers and candy canes against the light of the sunny bright window…
May your days and nights be merry and bright!

Your dining area is so pretty. The trees are adorable. I am so happy the sun is shining today. Merry Christmas!

I am so happy for you that your home survived the rain storms and that the sun is shining. We too are having a sunny day after days of rain (I posted to you earlier about it) and flooding and storm tidal surges along the Maritime coasts. I hear there is upwards of 50 million $$$ in damage here and many have lost their homes. I'm counting my blessings too! Your dining room looks lovely and fresh with the greens. Have a blessed Christmas.

I am glad you guys survived the storm. Your place looks simply beautiful. I love your table and chairs, can I ask where they are from?
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great...I really like your new style for this home :) My family was hit hard with the rains our master bathroom and closet roof collapsed...and we have 2 huge leaks in the family room as well. I did manage to move my 11 x13 foot down sectional so that makes me very happy. I do hope you get all cleaned up and prepared for any further storms as it is only the 3rd day of Winter and we get some good rain in SC in the spring too. I have to go tend to our green swampy pool and flooded backyard now...I still am thankful and joyous as I can go to church this evening and sing a joyful song to the King :) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sheila

I adore little trees. Simplicity is sweet. So sorry about the rains.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and her family was at DIsneyland all week.
Not good timing. They survived in the ponchos and managed to have a decent time. They flew back to Colorado today.
6 years ago we had a terrible ice storm. We had to move into a hotel for 6 days on Dec. 23. It was awful. We managed Christmas but it was really sad to be homeless during that time.
So enjoy the sun and have a blessed day.
They "were" at Disney.

Your kitchen and dining area is lovely! I have it as an inspiration photo since we are re-doing our kitchen. Would you mind sharing, what color your paint is? I started w/ one color and took me less than 10 seconds to realize it is far too dark, but my laundry looks similar to your kitchen. Hoping to be able to lighten this full can of paint. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Jackie
