CALM and Collective

This past weekend, Adam and I had the pleasure of attending the CALM Show in Santa Barbara, held at the Earl Warren Show Grounds.

In case you were wondering, CALM stands for Child Abuse Listening and Mediation. They are a non-profit agency, dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect.

Twice a year, they hold a charity benefit antique show, with approximately 80 vendors selling their wares. This was the first time we attended this event, and the show was quite spectacular.

I wish I could say the same for my photos!

My “traveling” camera (Kodak point n’ shoot) batteries died, so I had to rely on my iphone camera to try and capture all the beauty. Please bear this fact in mind as you browse the following photos.

The vendor of this booth, Kate Hernandez of Hth Design, was so incredibly talented. I fell in love with her immediately (and so did everyone else that stepped into her booth…she was swamped!) Kate has a very new little blog – would you kindly take a moment and offer her a warm welcome?

See that gorgeous long gate on top of Kate’s farm table? My friend Sally ended up buying it for her new home. Can you say gate-envy?

The old painted numbers on this basket, along with the sweet little yellow flowers beckoned to me..

This is Dan Marty’s booth. A long time fan of his work, I had the pleasure of speaking with him. (That’s Dan on the right). I find his designs to be completely fresh and invigorating, and yet totally calming at the same time.

See that number three bag? I clutched onto it several times, and even Adam was completely intrigued with it, but sadly it did not go home with us. And don’t even get me started on that British subway roll sign on the wall…le sigh…

Next I visited Kymberley’s booth, of 3 Fine Grains. She was very busy filling orders and helping customers, but took a moment to chat with me. I’m continuously in awe of this girl, with her impeccable style and her original, antique grain sacks.

Nothing sweeter than perusing through piles of old grain sacks. I’m still loving my pillow that Kymberley had made from an old grain sack.

I also deeply admired her amazing collection of old vellum books, hundreds of years old..

For those of you who may be interested in attending the next show, it’s set to be held in October. If we are able to go, I’ll be sure to bring a set of fresh batteries!
