A look back, and looking ahead

I hope you had a wonderful New Year! We’ve been on the go, so much this past week, I seem to be a day (or two) behind the rest. So let’s play a little catch up, shall we?

Here’s my New Years Eve table. I put it all together super fast, and it doesn’t help that I couldn’t find the photo card for my Canon Rebel, so my little point n’ shoot Kodak was my go-to back up. (It was that or use my iphone!)

ny6

The round silver tray and mercury glass votives are from Z Gallerie, one of my favorite places to shop. I also purchased my silver chargers from there.

To add a little interest, I placed a vintage silver trophy cup in the center of the votive grouping with a pinecone on top, along with frost tipped pinecones scattered throughout. I’m all about incorporating nature, even on a tablescape. The silver birds are my friend Rosemary’s, and I’m borrowing them for an upcoming project, stay tuned for more details on that!

ny4

Keeping it simple, I just placed glittered snowflake ornaments on top of the napkins…

ny3

I bought these great metal frame stands from my friend Kymberley at 3 Fine Grains a while back, and simply printed out New Years themed images I found at The Graphics Fairy

ny2

The mercury glass decanters were purchased from Home Goods. They came with fancy crystal tops, which I left behind and opted for dripless wax candles instead and turned these decanters into candleholders…

ny5

I’m looking forward to completing more house projects in 2011. I have a bunch of plans on my to do list, such as this bad boy, my cinderblock fireplace wall. It has been my nemesis since we first bought this house over two years ago.

As a quick, semi-painful reminder, here’s how it looked when we first bought this place:

bflv4 And here’s how it looks today, shot at night time. As you can see, the room dividing section of cinderblock wall that faces out hasn’t undergone much more than paint, crown moulding and base trim moulding up to this point…

xmas3

I’m also feeling a change is gonna come to our fireplace wall as well, although the jury is still out on that project. In the meantime, don’t you just love the stockings gifted to me by my dear friend Laurie at Bella Inspirations.

Note: It’s January 2nd and my stockings are still up. Does that make me crazy, lazy or just plain sentimental? And a quick question, dear bloggers: How long do you leave your holiday decor up on your mantel? I get the whole taking down the christmas tree by the new year thing, but is there a decided expiration date on mantel decor and stockings?

In closing, I want to thank each and every one of you who have shared in our journey this past year. To all those who’ve been so kind to comment and email, or called just to say hello! Even the lurkers who quietly drop in for a visit. You guys simply amaze me with your support. I also want to thank all our incredible customers who dig my goods and shop my online store. You’ve helped make this past year our best yet, and I can’t wait to show you the cool finds I’ll be listing next.

  4. I am a new follower, and I think you have the coziest house I have seen. I LOVE the transformation pictures. It makes buying an old house look more appealing. And as for the undecorating of Christmas, mine happens the day after Christmas. Only because I like having a clean house and less stuff around. But you have pretty stuff, so the mantle you can get away with keeping up longer.

  14. Hi Jennifer and Adam,
I have enjoyed watching what you have done to make your ho-hum little bungalow into a really lovely home. I actually like the way your fireplace is now, it is a whole lot prettier than mine, I can tell you. I took all of my Christmas decor down by the 31st of Dec., but I think it depends on what you like. Do what makes you happy, I say!
Your table scape is simple and really sweet. I love everything you do, your newest furniture is so pretty and fits in so perfectly. I adore your coffee table. I'm looking forward to seeing what your new projects will be.
    Hugs, Cindy

  15. I took everything down the day after Christmas!! Everything!! Boxed it up neatly, and put it away. I was relieved...We bought our fresh tree the last weekend of Nov. and so it was good timing for it to go, and I was happy to have the needles permanently off the floor....Also, my family has 3 birthdays all falling within 2 weeks after Christmas, so it feels good to end one phase and begin the next, rather than combining the two!
    Happy New Year,
    Jenny

  29. I can't wait to see what you do in 2011. FTR, I usually leave our holiday decor up until Jan 6 (the 12th day of Christmas), but I'm felling very "nesty" right now (I'm 6 months pregnant today) and am feeling the need to put my house back to normal. We'll see if I can hold out until Thursday.

  37. I have been a lurker for quite awhile and loved seeing the house remodel. Fabulous job. Those metals sign holders with the New Years graphics just made that table! Probably my fav part of the tablescape. As for Christmas decor... since I usually get mine up late in December, I tend to want to cherish the season as long as I can. Usually until New Years. Today I will be taking down and packing away until next year. Looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us in 2011

  44. I generally leave all of my Christmas stuff up until Epiphany (Jan 6-celebrates the coming of the wise men) since its a lot of work to put up and a lot of work to take down and I like to enjoy it as long as possible. Saying I like to leave it up until Epiphany makes me sound like I have a good reason to do so besides being a wee bit lazy. :-)

Happy New Year and thanks for all of the great inspiration,
    Judy

  45. Jennifer,
It used to be the tradition that all your Christmas decorations were supposed to stay up until Epiphany which is January 8th. But, most people just do what they want now. So much for tradition!!!

  48. Your home is so gorgeous! Love your table and how you used the decanters. Your stockings are so pretty! In my house I take down Christmas slowly - I like to enjoy it as long as I can. I took down my second tree today but only because our wood floors are being refinished and I have furniture to move. Tree one was live and if not for the floors it would have been up until this weekend. Thanks for sharing all the beautiful photo's of your home and all of the others you featured. So much fun!
